Birth Of A Star

Birth Of A Star:

A star is born in a huge interstellar cloud of dust and gas (mostly hydrogen) known as a nebula up in space. There are 5 different types of nebula to exist. Nebulae's are about 21 light years (125 trillion miles) away from earth. Part of the nebula begins to shrink under the pull of its own gravity. Huge clouds of dust and gas collapse under gravitational forces creating protostars which is about 60 million miles across space. The star begins to take shape. The temperature continues to rise and nuclear fusion begins to take place. The pressue from inside the star finally equalizes the gravity pushing, and the star stops contracting. Stars have three different lfie cycles, depending on their mass. The larger the mass, the the life cyle.

Low Mass Star                      Intermediate Mass Star                    High Mass Star
